Every now and then there are particular sorts of drives to make the world a better place in some way or another.
For instance, communities will have an anti-littering campaign, and levy hefty fines if people litter.
The area of attempted improvement shifts over time and place.
Recently, bankruptcy trustees in Arizona have become particularly interested in getting copies of tax returns, and getting them on a timely basis.
I just saw a pleading filed where a trustee was requesting sanctions against the debtor for failure to turn over the tax return (not the tax refund, that's a different issue; for failure to turn over a tax refund, the bankruptcy trustee will like as not request that the discharge be set aside).
The bankruptcy trustee was requesting that the bankruptcy judge levy a fine against the debtor for failure to produce the tax returns.
The fine requested was $100.00
Per day.
Probably a pretty effective sanction, wouldn't you think?
